Residents are asked to avoid the area near Slattocks roundabout whilst the issue is dealt with by Rochdale Borough Council and contractors. The 17 bus between Rochdale, Middleton and Manchester Shudehill is being diverted through Hollins Lane and the M62, its operator Go North West confirmed.

Posting on social media, a spokesperson for the council said: “We're dealing with reports of fallen trees, including this one blocking the road at Rochdale Road near Slattocks roundabout. Please avoid this area where you can. We are dealing with it, working alongside our contractors.

“Also another fallen tree has been reported on Laythe Barn Close, Milnrow.

“Please do bear with us as we are dealing with a number of storm-related issues.”
