Heavy rain after Storm Eunice

Date published: 19 February 2022

Heavy rain will continue to affect the north west after Storm Eunice passes through the country.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather alerts for Sunday into Monday (20 and 21 February), warning of heavy rain.

This comes after Storm Eunice hit the UK on Friday (18 February) which saw rare red weather alerts issued in the south of England and 122mph winds – the strongest for more than 30 years – recorded in the Isle of Wight.

Forecasts for the north west say: “A band of heavy rain will affect parts of northwest England on Sunday, and become slow-moving for a time, with some very heavy rain, especially over high ground. The duration and intensity of the rainfall could bring widespread totals of 20 to 40 mm, but some exposed sites may see 75 to 100 mm on Sunday – however – this will fall on to already-saturated ground. The rain should clear south by Sunday evening.”
