The borough’s talented tradespeople are being offered an exciting opportunity to make their mark in the classroom.
Hopwood Hall College – which has campuses in Rochdale and Middleton – is calling on skilled professionals to come forward to share their expertise and teach the next generation.
The drive comes as the government launches a new campaign to tackle skills shortages in further education.
All in all, the Department for Education is aiming to recruit 4,000 people into the sector by 2025.
The transition to teaching is designed to be seamless at Hopwood, with comprehensive training and support packages available to those who opt to switch to the profession.
This means that anyone could make the jump – from engineers and builders to plumbers and electricians.
A special ‘Get Into Teaching’ recruitment event is planned to take place at the college’s Middleton Campus on Tuesday 15 February from 5.30pm – 7pm.
Those who attend will be able to learn more about the opportunities in working at Hopwood’s 6,500sq-m Technology Centre.
It’ll be a chance to meet the expert tutors, speak with training advisors, tour the facilities and enjoy a pie and pea dinner.
Julia Heap, Principal and CEO of Hopwood Hall College, said: “Teaching can be a natural progression for tradespeople who are passionate about their craft and have so much expertise to offer.
“Many of our current tutors have come from similar professional backgrounds and find so much enjoyment in ensuring the next generation are able to master the same skillset.
“Whether you’re thinking that it’s time for a change or simply interested in hearing about the opportunities, we’d like to encourage you to join us at our upcoming recruitment event.
“It promises to be an eye-opening experience for people of all ages who may have wondered why so many tradespeople choose to side-step into teaching.”
