Hundreds of pounds donated to Rochdale military veterans' breakfast club

Date published: 02 February 2022

Hundreds of pounds have been handed over to the Rochdale military veterans’ breakfast club.

A total of £870 was raised via JustGiving to initially fund a Christmas lunch and hampers for the veterans. Unfortunately, this was called off due to the rapidly spreading Omicron variant of Covid-19.

The presentation was made by Councillor Faisal Rana – himself a veteran of the Pakistan Navy – to the breakfast club on Wednesday 26 January.

The donation was welcomed by Wing Commander David Forbes, President of North Region Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC), the veterans’ club and the British Legion in Rochdale.

The Rochdale-born Wing Commander said: “I thank Councillor Rana for this generous donation.

“It is praiseworthy to help guarantee the ongoing success of the Rochdale Veterans’ Breakfast Club. It does such valuable work in supporting present and past members of the armed services and so gifts like this are greatly appreciated.”

The Rochdale veterans' breakfast club is part of a growing network in the UK and Europe. It is made up of veterans and serving members of Her Majesty's Armed Forces. They meet regularly for support, banter and chat – not forgetting a hearty breakfast.

The members include past and present representatives of all the services – the Army, Navy, Air Force and Royal Marines.

Councillor Rana said: “I have lots of love and respect for veterans being a veteran myself.

“I will always help them with blankets, jackets, hats, socks and donations like this as much as I can.”
