Best foot forward for charity!

Councillor Doreen Brophy-Lee
A leading councillor is putting her best foot forward - all in the name of charity.
Councillor Doreen Brophy-Lee, the council’s cabinet member for housing, is stepping out in aid of local homeless support charity, Petrus Community.
She will be taking part in a sponsored walk around Hollingworth Lake this Saturday (27 September) to help raise vital funds.
The walk comes as a new outreach service for rough sleepers in the borough is about to be launched. Petrus is to deliver the service which aims to help rough sleepers to access the advice and support they need to move away from a life on the streets. The money for the new service has come from Supporting People, a council, health and probation partnership.
Doreen said: “I’m really pleased to be supporting the Petrus Community by doing this walk. For years the charity has been helping homeless people to move off the streets and into safer, more independent lives. In the borough today there is no need for anyone to be homeless and by working with Petrus and other agencies, the council is doing everything it can to make sure that support is there when people need it. Helping vulnerable people is something I’m passionate about and the more we can do to raise funds for charities like this, the better. I’m just hoping the weather holds out!”
The council is currently running a campaign to encourage people to donate to charity rather than give cash to beggars directly.
