A group of runners and ramblers from the Bangladeshi Arts & Sports Association (BASA) tackled Snowdon on Sunday (14 November) as part of a post-pandemic campaign to reintroduce people back into health and fitness.
Team captain Tahir Ali lead the group of experienced hikers and first-timers on the 15km climb, which took six hours and 56 minutes.
The group of six consisted of experienced climbers Junad Ali and Mahbubur Rahman; Parves Miah, who tackled Snowdon as his first mountain after improving his fitness; plus father and daughter duo, Doliz and Zaara Miah, eight, who was “extremely excited” for the challenge.
Doliz said: “Zaara had been extremely excited all week and woke up before anyone to get ready for the hike. She loved the chats with Jay, Tahir and cheeky Mabs ever so much, and said Parves was ‘super’ for waiting for her.
“As a father I could not be any prouder of little Zaara, bursting with such happiness that she managed to achieve this big hike. At times, she did want to turn back but just turned around and looked at the views and said how amazing it would be to see the views from the top.
“Zaara smashed it, she really did, and she has already asked for her next one.”
BASA is a non-profit organisation which was set up in Rochdale in 1990. It was created for the Bangladeshi community to keep socially and physically active, from organising football matches to helping anyone and everyone in any way possible, promoting community cohesion and tackling social exclusion, in particular using the power of sports and arts.
