Warning ahead of Halloween as sweets containing cannabis found in Rochdale

Date published: 28 October 2021

Police have issued a warning ahead of the Halloween weekend after sweets containing cannabis have been found in Rochdale.

Officers said they found the packets of sweets on Wednesday (27 October), and discovered they contained the class B drug after inspecting them.

Officers have also warned about the dangers of the sweets, which contain the active compound of cannabis, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) if they are eaten by children.

Parents and carers are urged to be vigilant as the trick or treat season sees sweets handed out to children.

In a Facebook post, the Rochdale division of Greater Manchester Police said: “The town centre, Milkstone and Deeplish team has been out on patrol and come across these packages.

“At first, they appear to be sweets aimed at young people, however upon closer inspection, we found that they contain cannabis.

“This could have serious consequences on any young person or child who may consume these.

“Please keep an eye out over Halloween to see what your children are consuming.”
