Council Exec to start new job

Date published: 19 September 2008

A Rochdale Council Executive is to leave her post after accepting a new role as Chief Executive of Sefton Council.

Margaret Carney, who is responsible for performance and development, finance, libraries and information, revenues and benefits and the town's transformation programme, will leave her position at the end of the year.

“I am genuinely really sad to be leaving Rochdale – I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here," she said. "When I first arrived I was given a really warm welcome and soon found out that was a sign of things to come. The friendliness – both within the council and of the people of the borough – is certainly something I’ll always remember.

"During my time at the council I have had the pleasure of working with very talented and committed people and I wish them every success in the future.

"I’m looking forward to the challenges that being a chief executive will present – and having a shorter commute to the office from my home on Merseyside!”

Ms Carney's appointment was formally approved by Sefton's councillors at a meeting last night (Thursday 19 September). She will become the first woman to run Sefton Council.
