Man stabbed at Middleton Shopping Centre in 'attempted murder'

Date published: 16 August 2021

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man in his 40s was stabbed at Middleton Shopping Centre on Saturday afternoon (14 August).

Police have confirmed that the victim's - believed to be a security guard - condition has since stabilised.

A source told Rochdale Online that: "Last week the security guard turfed someone out of the Arndale and the guy threatened the security guard that he would come back and stab him."

It is unknown if the person who has been arrested is the same person who was removed from the shopping centre last week.

A cordon was in place for several hours at the shopping centre. A knife was recovered and a man held on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police are now appealing for any information or footage of the incident to aid with an investigation.

Chief Inspector Harrison said: "It is vital that a thorough investigation takes place, and with that I appeal to anyone with information or footage to contact us with as much detail as they possibly can online or by calling 101 quoting incident 1659 of 14/08/2021."

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for more information.
