One of the new boats named in honour of the two men
Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club held a boat naming and memorial for two club members on Sunday 25 July.
The two former stalwarts, Greg Holmes and Peter Darnborough, both sadly passed away during the Covid-19 lockdowns - Greg from cancer and Peter from Covid-19.
Having recently purchased two new boats, the Littleborough-based club decided to name each boat in memory of the men who both rowed for the club ‘back in the day’ and supported it in various ways over many years.
The two boats were taken to Warrington regatta on Saturday 24 July and crews from each boat won for the club.
Club members, family, and friends gathered at the club on 25 July to watch the official boat naming and enjoyed a bite to eat and a drink in memory of the men in the club’s function room.
This was the first chance for everyone to get together and remember Greg and Peter since Covid-19 restrictions ended on Monday 19 July.
