Police are continuing to appeal for witness after two men were assaulted with a paving stone outside a pub in Middleton last month.

One of the victims required facial surgery after he was hit in the head and face. The other man received a blow to the chest but was not badly injured.

The attack occured shortly after 1.30am on Saturday 23 August in the Hanson Street and Springvale area of Middleton.

The offender is described as a white man with a local accent, around 22 to 23 years old, of a broad build with shaven dark brown hair. He was wearing a dark t-shirt with an eagle pattern on the chest.

Detective Constable Matthew Cassidy of Rochdale CID said: "This was a completely unprovoked attack, leaving one man needing surgery for his injuries.

"This is a serious assault and the person responsible needs to be caught.

"If anyone was in the area at the time of the assault or recognises the description of the offender please get in touch."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4644 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
