Primary schools are to receive a special visitor this academic year on behalf of children’s charity, MedEquip4Kids.
MedEquip4Kids' mascot Pip is to become a familiar face in the classroom motivating 30,000 children into completing one hour of exercise each day for one week.
Primary schools across the region are to receive a presentation of the charity’s popular education programme, Get Active with Pip. Launched in September 2007, Get Active with Pip has already been presented to more than 20,000 children encouraging them to make healthy lifestyle choices regarding diet, exercise, sleep and personal hygiene/cleanliness.
Following a visit from MedEquip4Kids, the pupils put their new-found knowledge to the test completing pen and paper activities and asking friends and family to make a donation to MedEquip4Kids for taking part.
In return, each school receives a Stay Active pack containing PE equipment to help put all they learn into practice, and the money raised by the children will be spent providing equipment for sick and injured babies and children in hospital and community health centres across the region.
Rose Franks, MedEquip4Kids Youth Fundraising Co-ordinator, said: “Pip is aiming for children across the north of England to build up 210,000 hours of exercise, which they can log by visiting our website.
“Our aim as a charity is to ensure children and babies are receiving the best possible care when they are poorly or in hospital. By teaching Get Active with Pip, we hope to make them more aware about why it is so important to lead healthy lifestyles from a young age.”
