Rochdale’s Angie Howarth, founder of homelessness group Angie’s Angels, has been named by Morrison’s as one of 30 inspirational women, chosen from over 400.
Over 400 Morrison’s stores were asked to put an inspirational woman forward for International Women’s Day, with Angie being nominated by the Rochdale store’s community champion, Emma Pedgrift.
Emma said: “Angie’s work is amazing and second to none. The effort, time and determination she has for our community is incredible and it was only right Morrison’s recognised Angie for all her hard work.”
Angie said: “Morrison’s gave me lots of presents to say thank you for everything I’ve done, and the amazing volunteers all wrote lovely statements about me which made me cry. I’m completely humbled and honoured; thank you.”
Angie’s Angels is a group of volunteers who help ensure scores of homeless people are provided with furniture, food and toiletries when they are re-housed.
The group works closely with veterans, street homeless, people living in hostels and vulnerable adults to provide furniture and household items to ease the transition back into accommodation.
It also runs a free community café, feeding on average 40 people each time, and also runs a clothing giveaway every Tuesday from its local soup kitchen.
