IT consultant writes book about second life as pilot

Date published: 10 November 2020

Danny Roach, an IT consultant from Rochdale, has written a book about his experiences taking to the skies in his free time.

Danny’s literary debut, Inside the Cyclone, is a series of anecdotes of his own experiences with flying and from previous owners of his plane.

Having always wanted to be a pilot, Danny began learning in Barton in 2014, later buying a Cyclone AX3 named Harriet, which he was surprised he could buy for £2,100.

When he is away from his job, he spends most of his time flying in Rossall Field, near Lancaster.

Danny said: “The thing I love most about flying a plane is the freedom, because we live our lives with a phone or tablet, and I prefer the independence and the view you get from 2,000 feet, when it’s just you and the sky.”

The freedom of flying has always attracted Danny, who has also owned motorbikes, which he felt were not as liberating as flying a plane.

Writing a book has been something Danny has wanted to do for a long time, and has been working on for three years, taking the opportunity to finish it during lockdown.

Already, he has set his sights on writing a second book about his experiences as a flight instructor in France.

Inside the Cyclone was published in October as a paperback and an e-book and can be bought via Amazon:
