Teenagers from Middleton and Rochdale arrested in police chase after Blackburn Audi theft

Date published: 03 September 2020

Two teenagers from Rochdale and Middleton have been arrested with two other men after a police chase through East Lancashire.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning (2 September), police were contacted by the owner of a red Audi A5, after their car had been stolen from the driveway of their house in Blackburn.

Police say the Audi was spotted just nine minutes later, and a pursuit started involving Tactical Operations, ARV patrols and the police helicopter.

As the chase continued, a stinger was deployed close to the Tesco at Haslingden, which brought the Audi - as well at the Volkswagen Golf it was in convoy with – to a stop.

A spokesperson for the police said: “Four people were arrested at the scene on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. They are a 15-year-old boy from Middleton, a 27-year-old man of no fixed address, a 20-year-old man from Rochdale and a 17-year-old boy from Rochdale.

“They have since been released under investigation whilst the matter is referred to the Crown Prosecution Service.”

The car has since been returned to its owner, having been recovered within 30 minutes of being stolen.
