Local motorbike group Brass Knuckle Riders have been presented with an award by the Mayor of Rochdale.

The group were presented with the award by Rochdale Mayor Billy Sheerin on Wednesday 26 August for services to the community after the group had provided support through lockdown.

Brass Knuckle Riders have been voluntarily providing transport for the Scrubs Hub, Headbands for Heroes, Rochdale Volunteer Food Network and Rochdale Boroughwide Housing.

Mayor Billy Sheerin said: "This is a fully deserved award for a really great bunch of riders. It was great to meet up with you. Don't forget your promise to take me out for a ride sometime - I have my own helmet but its a bit retro!"

Member Paul Whitaker said: “We are still providing transport for groups within the Rochdale borough. We will continue to do so until our services are no longer required.

“Brass Knuckle Riders have proven time after time that the stereotype of a motorcyclist is incorrect. We are a caring and compassionate group who care about all of our community. Providing food and PPE to vulnerable people, at home and in their workplace is a no brainer for us.

“Brass Knuckle Riders are extremely proud and humbled to receive such an accolade from the Mayor of Rochdale.”

One of the largest North West community-based riding groups Brass Knuckle Riders is based at Empire, Packer Street, Rochdale and was established in 2017.

Each year the group looks for charities or organisations within the community to raise funds for.
