Date published: 26 August 2020

Vandals have smashed up the Rugby Road Bowling Club in Rochdale, pouring paint everywhere in the process.

The damage was discovered on Tuesday (26 August), but despite someone breaking in nothing appears to have been stolen.

“For a small self-sufficient club, this has come at a nightmare time as we are just keeping our heads above water,” said the club’s Janine Hampson.

“There is loads of damage as it was pure vandalism; they had been throwing snooker balls about and bowls too.”

The break-in is believed to have taken place between 8pm Sunday and 4pm on Tuesday.

The incident has been reported to Greater Manchester Police.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Shortly before 3.30pm on Tuesday 25 August 2020, officers were called to a report of a burglary at Rugby Road recreational club on Rugby Road in Rochdale.

"It is believed that the offender broke in through a door and the property was damaged.

"Enquiries are on-going and anyone with information can report online at www.gmp.police.uk/."
