Generous donation allows Rochdale Foodbank to buy van

Date published: 29 August 2020

Rochdale Foodbank has purchased a van, thanks to a generous £5,000 donation by Countryside.

The donation was made as one of eight to organisations across Greater Manchester, and the Rochdale Foodbank trustees decided to use the funds as a major contribution towards buying a van.

Steve Field, trustee and volunteer, said: “We have to pick up sometimes very large donations from a variety of supporters, as well as move food between our store and our main site on South Parade.

“In the past we have been very grateful for the support of RRG Peugeot who have loaned us a van free of charge, but it will make life much easier for us now that we have our own vehicle.”

Local company Hanson Springs, long-time supporters of Rochdale Foodbank, have generously offered to sponsor the van’s tax and insurance.

Gordon Innes, Managing Director, Partnerships Manchester and Cheshire East, Countryside said: “We are committed to investing in our communities and now more than ever they need our support. “The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has made life far more difficult for many local people and charities who rely on donations.

“On behalf of myself and the rest of the team, we hope these funds will help these organisations continue their vital work.”
