Three fined after house parties breaching Covid restrictions are broken up by police

Date published: 24 August 2020

Three people have been fined after three large gatherings were dispersed by police in the borough on Friday evening (21 August) for breaching Covid-19 restrictions.

Over 30 people at a wedding party in Rochdale were dispersed, and a fixed penalty notice issued, whilst two house parties in Heywood and Middleton were also broken up.

With around 25 people at the Heywood house party and 50 at the Middleton house party, the homeowners were both issued a fixed penalty notice.

Since 31 July, people in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (including Milnrow and Littleborough) have not been permitted to mix with other households (apart from those in their support bubbles) in private homes or gardens, pubs, cafes, restaurants and other leisure or entertainment settings.

The restrictions will be reviewed again this week.
