Rochdale Cricket Club raising money for loyal fan facing cancer battle

Town Hall to the Tower fundraising bike ride

Members of Rochdale Cricket Club will be cycling from Rochdale to Blackpool on Saturday 5 September to raise money for one of its lifelong fans, so that he can make memories with his family after being diagnosed with cancer.

At the end of July, members of the club found out that father-of-three Kieran Stansfield, who has been a fan of the club since he was just four, had been diagnosed with cancer.

After being told he had a tumour on his lung, Kieran, 51, was then delivered a further blow by doctors, that the cancer had spread to his bones.

Members of the club also climbed Scafell Pike on Saturday (15 August) to raise additional funds for Kieran and his family.

Ian Gilbertson from Rochdale Cricket Club said: “Kieran has been following Rochdale home and away since he was four. He has three boys, who he has managed to drag to most games by bus, train, old vans and lifts with players.

“He hasn’t missed a Rochdale Cricket Club game at home or away for 12 years; Rochdale takes up a massive place in his heart. The doctors have advised Kieran that without treatment, he will only have six months with us. If Kieran decides to undergo treatment, there is a possibility of extending this time-frame.”

“We want Kieran to take his family away and make the most of the up and coming tough months ahead. The funds will be used to aid Kieran and his family to have the most memorable time possible.

“The urgency of this is paramount, and timing is of the essence.”
