Man who bit Rochdale police officer is jailed

Date published: 19 August 2020

A man who bit a police officer in Rochdale has been jailed after appearing at crown court.

Christopher Hill, 30, was jailed for 10 months after admitting three counts of assault by beating and criminal damage.

During the height of the pandemic, Hill attacked two officers when they were responding to an incident on Drake Street on 9 April, where he also bit a 21-year-old police officer on her arm. After attending hospital, the officer was discharged to recover at home.

The BBC reports that the officer later tested negative for coronavirus.

Chief Constable Ian Hopkins tweeted the day after the incident that Hill’s behaviour was 'the lowest of the low'.

He wrote: “Words fail me when it comes to some people's behaviour. This is shocking at the best of times, but during a coronavirus pandemic this is just the lowest of the low.”
