Litter pick and tidy-up at Darnhill by Rotary Club of Heywood

Date published: 22 August 2020

Members of the Rotary Club of Heywood undertook a litter pick and community tidy-up around the Argyle Parade of shops on Darnhill in Heywood on Saturday (15 August).

All attendees wore masks and ensured they maintained the social distance rules, whilst collecting rubbish and cutting back overgrowth.

Local charity, Rochdale Connections Trust and the NHS are due to take over some of the space on the Parade imminently and will be providing mental health services for young people, so the club thought it would be good idea to spruce the area up in readiness for their arrival.

The President of Heywood Rotary, Councillor Peter Rush, said: “The Rotary Club of Heywood is a pro-active group of like-minded people who are committed to positively contributing to our community.

“The litter-pick and tidy-up was a great way to make a significant difference in this location and something we could do even with all the Covid-19 related restrictions that are in place. You can see from the amount of rubbish collected that our members worked really hard.”

Local residents and business owners were thrilled with the club’s efforts and expressed their thanks and gratitude.

Kathy Thomas, CEO of Rochdale Connections Trust, added her thanks, saying: “We have been working alongside the NHS to make the adaptations to the building inside that are needed for us to offer a range of services to local young people, but we can’t thank the Rotary Club of Heywood enough for donating their time and efforts to making the area outside so much cleaner and welcoming for our staff teams.”
