Former race organiser Andy O’Sullivan MBE (centre, grey coat) organised an 'Off Road' Half Marathon for charity
Rochdale's prolific former race organiser Andy O’Sullivan MBE has raised over £1,000 for the Whitworth branch of Cancer Research UK after running his first half-marathon after major surgery.
Andy, a former policeman, previously fought bladder cancer in 2016, before undergoing extensive surgery in September 2019 to remove his bladder and prostate.
After being declared cancer clear, Andy swapped organising races for competing, lacing up his trainers for a celebratory half-marathon (13.1 miles) on Sunday 16 August, just five months after taking up his beloved sport once more.
Andy raised a staggering £1,200 with his off-road run, which he described as ‘very tough’.
Between September 1983 and July 2020, Andy organised hundreds of races for numerous charitable causes, many named after people who contributed enormously to the sport.
