Managers at building sites in Rochdale and Middleton win NHBC Pride in the Job award

Date published: 12 August 2020

A Taylor Wimpey and a Countryside site manager are both celebrating having won a prestigious national house building award.

Out of 11,000 entries, Tom Chadwick, site manager at Taylor Wimpey’s East Hollinsfield development in Middleton, and Ben Maguire, site manager of Countryside Manchester & Cheshire East’s Durham Street site in Rochdale, were both honoured with an NHBC (National House Building Council) Pride in the Job Quality Award.

The Durham Street site is part of Countryside’s partnership with Sigma Capital Group, which will see the transformation of four major brownfield sites in Rochdale into 264 new homes.

Taylor Wimpey’s East Hollinsfield development offers a collection of three- and four-bedroom properties in a range of styles in Middleton.

The awards recognise an individual’s dedication to building high-quality homes for new homebuyers and are presented following a rigorous judging process by NHBC inspectors.

Tom Chadwick said: “I’m delighted to have won a Quality Award. It’s a fantastic honour, not just for me, but the whole team at East Hollinsfield. They all work incredibly hard and take great pride in ensuring that the homes we build are completed to the highest possible standards.”

Ben Maguire said: “It is an incredible honour to receive this award. It is what all site managers want to achieve at some point in their careers, so the fact that I have won it is unbelievable.

“House building is a team effort and I wouldn’t have achieved this if it wasn’t for my fantastic team, it’s a collaborative effort to produce the best results possible.”

Pride in the Job is the only UK-wide awards scheme that recognises the significant contribution of site managers who achieve the highest standards in new home construction. It has been instrumental in raising the build quality of new homes in the UK for over three decades.

NHBC Chief Executive Steve Wood said: “Despite the numerous challenges the industry has faced in recent times, the very best site managers of 2020 have kept their focus on delivering high quality new homes for their customers.

“At NHBC we are very proud of Pride in the Job, what it stands for and the impact it has had and continues to have across the sector.

“Congratulations to all the 2020 Quality Award winners – be proud of your incredible achievements!”

The competition’s regional events will now take place virtually in the autumn, whilst the Supreme Award winners will be announced in January 2021.
