National Honours System Demystified
Date published: 02 September 2008
Have you ever wondered how some people get the MBE or OBE or even get Knighted? Do you know someone who you think deserves to be recognised and rewarded for their passion and commitment to your local community? All is set to be revealed in a special one off event in Manchester this month.
The Lord-Lieutenant and local grant maker the Community Foundation have teamed up with the Ceremonial Office at Buckingham Palace to run a special lunch time event where you can find out about how the system works, and about how to make a citizen’s nomination.
The event will take place at 12 noon on Thursday 25 September at the Town Hall, when the Lord Lieutenant will be joined by Dennis Brennan from the Ceremonial Office at Buckingham Palace. Attendees will be given an insight into the National Honours System and given advice on what type of person or organisation can be nominated, and the process involved.
The Lord Lieutenant Warren Smith comments: “There is a great deal of misunderstanding surrounding the honours system and this is a fantastic opportunity to hear how the system works, where to find out more information and to ask the experts questions.”
Nick Massey, Chief Executive of the Community Foundation adds: “In our work across Greater Manchester we come across a fantastic selection of people who deserve to be honoured for the amazing work they do in their communities. It will be fantastic to hear about how we can look to put such people forward for this kind of recognition.”
Places at the event are limited and will be issued on a first come first served basis. To book your place honours@communityfoundation.co.uk or telephone Chris on 0161 214 0940.
