Rochdale mum with incurable breast cancer prepares for 5k run to raise money for The Christie

Date published: 29 January 2020

A Rochdale mum with incurable breast cancer is preparing to take on a 5k fun run to raise money for The Christie.

Virginia Wills, 49, was diagnosed with primary breast cancer in 2014. After several years of being free from cancer, Virginia was sadly diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in January 2019 and regularly attends The Christie for treatment.

Joined by her family, Virginia is taking part in The Christie’s Frosty 5k at Heaton Park on Sunday 9 February, a 3.2-mile course with themed zones of fog, fire, ice and snow.

Virginia said: “Living with incurable breast cancer means I spend a lot of time at The Christie and I would like to raise money to give something back to them and to say thank you for all the hard work they do, helping so many cancer patients and their families.

“Since being diagnosed with secondary breast cancer, they have given me several treatments which has improved my quality of life in the last 12 months. All the staff are so supportive, caring and friendly and nothing is ever too much trouble for them.

“I am so grateful for the amazing care and treatment I, and my father-in-law, have received from them and your kind donations will help this to continue.”

Virginia will be joined on the day by ‘Wills Wanderers’ – her husband, Malcolm; daughters, Chelsie and Sophie; stepchildren, Paul and Rachel; sister, Claire, and brother-in-law, Steve; niece, Yasemin; Paul’s partner Amy, and Chelsie’s partner, Ben.
