Steve Rumbelow, Chief Executive of Rochdale Borough Council
Steve Rumbelow, the chief executive at Rochdale Borough Council, reached the milestone of five years in position in December 2019.
The chief executive has overall responsibility for the running of the council and schools, working closely with elected councillors and partners from public, private and third sector organisations to deliver services across the borough.
When asked about what he feels he has achieved since joining Rochdale Borough Council, Mr Rumbelow said: “We have been working hard to build momentum behind the council’s plans to unlock the borough’s massive potential.
“We move into the twenties with confidence that we have the foundations in place to do that. We have ambitious political leadership and professional support in place that can ensure that the next decade will be exciting for the borough.
“I also want to pay tribute to our staff, who despite the challenges we face, are providing first class services for our residents.”
Mr Rumbelow was previously Chief Executive at Burnley Borough Council between July 2006 and December 2014.
Previously a Strategic Director for Manchester City Council, with responsibility for housing strategy and regeneration, he has worked in local government for over 30 years.
In addition to his role as Chief Executive of Rochdale Borough Council, Mr Rumbelow was appointed as the Accountable Officer for the local Clinical Commissioning Group in July 2018, meaning he has overall responsibility for the commissioning of NHS services for patients in the borough.
