Three men charged after attacking police in Middleton

Three men have been charged after an incident which saw two police officers assaulted in Middleton.

The men have been charged as follows:

Jonathan Cottrell, 34, of Moston, has been charged with actual bodily harm, assault by beating and violent disorder.

Lee Herbert, 29, of Heywood, has been charged with actual bodily harm and violent disorder.

Liam Baker, 23, of Gilmour Street, Middleton has been charged with violent disorder.

All three men have been remanded in custody to appear before Manchester & Salford Magistrates Court on today, on Monday 23 December.

This is in relation to an incident of disorder that took place at around 2.35am on Saturday morning (21 December) on Long Street.

Two officers were on their way to another incident when they saw a large group of men fighting.

They stopped to intervene and were assaulted.

The male officer was punched in the head, knocking him unconscious. The female officer was also punched, dragged to the floor and then stamped on.

Both officers were taken to hospital but have since been discharged and are recovering at home.
