Date published: 16 December 2019

Two people have been taken to hospital after being cut free from a car following a collision in Middleton centre on Monday (16 December).

A man in his 70s was taken to Salford Royal Hospital with serious injuries, and a woman in her 50s was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary. The extent of her injuries are unknown.

Emergency services were called to a two-car collision on Assheton Way at around 11am, where the fire service removed the roof of one vehicle where the patients were trapped.

The fire service attended with two engines from Rochdale and Philip’s Park, plus the Technical Response Unit from Leigh. They were on scene for one hour and 50 minutes.

The ambulance service sent a Rapid Response Vehicle, three ambulances and an air ambulance, which was not required.

Greater Manchester Police has confirmed no arrests have been made.

The road was closed for several hours from 2pm.
