Littleborough childminder rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted for fourth consecutive time

Céline Coldman, a childminder from Littleborough, has been rated ‘outstanding’ for the fourth consecutive inspection by the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted). 

Having registered as a childminder in August 1996, Céline has been in the field for approximately 23 years. She now works from her home in Riverstone Bridge with an assistant as a provider of Early Years Care & Education..

The inspection by Ofsted took place on 31 October 2019, following a change in the inspection framework that was put in motion in September 2019.

Childminders are graded upon their quality of education, their behaviour and attitudes, their personal development and their leadership and management skills.

Céline, who has qualifications dating back to 1981, has previously received ‘outstanding’ in every area in 2005, 2010 and 2015.

The report praises Céline for 'using her expert knowledge and curriculum to skilfully challenge all children' and 'encouraging children to consider their own levels of difficulty when accessing activities'.

The report notes that Céline has 'robust safeguarding and child protection knowledge' and parents 'appreciate her nurturing approach and depth of knowledge' whilst she encourages parents 'to become actively involved in their child’s development'.

The behaviour of the children was praised, with the report mentioning that children 'thrived' in the environment created for them. They have access to an 'exciting, engaging and challenging curriculum' and their communication, language and literacy skills are 'expertly supported'.

Speaking about her rating, Céline said: “We thought it would be harder to perform well at the inspection and achieve the standards with the introduction of the new framework.

“It’s a privilege, and I feel overwhelmed.”
