Castleton's own Albert Einstein

Date published: 21 August 2008

Rochdale's answer to Albert Einstein was unearthed today when 10-year old Jaime Van Hunskerken collected the result of his GCSE science course.

The Castleton youngster studied at Hopwood Hall College in Middleton alongside his mother Daisy and today they both learned that they had achieved B Grades in the subject.

Jaime has had an interest in science from an early age and found the course easy thanks to all the reading he had done since he was little.

"I worked hard on the course with my mum but I knew a lot about science from the books I read at home," said Jaime.

"It was a bit scary being with all the adults but it was exciting and I've been looking forward to getting my results."

Jaime completed the course at the same time as doing his normal school work at St Edward's Primary School in Castleton.

He doesn't know what he wants to do now that he has his first GCSE but whatever he chooses his mum will support him all the way.

She said: "I was absolutely ecstatic. I still can't believe it. I thought he would pass but I didn't expect him to get a B.

"Now I hope he can get a place at a high school where he will be really challenged.

"It's just up to him, if he wants to become a scientist or not I will support him. It's definitely his decision and there is no rush."
