Young boy raises over £500 for Children in Need

Date published: 25 November 2019

A junior member of Rochdale Triathlon Club has recently raised £554 for Children in Need, doing a fundraising run around Hollingworth Lake.

On Saturday 16 November Ben Hadfield, who is nine years old, ran his biggest distance yet doing two laps of the lake in aid of raising money for the charity.

His mum, Caroline Hadfield, said that the whole thing was Ben’s idea.

Ben said: “I just thought it would be a good idea. There’s a lot of children who are poorly and I thought it would be good to help them get better.”

Ben has been a member of the Rochdale Triathlon Club for over six months and some of the other club members ran around the lake with him for encouragement and support.

Ben ran the two laps around the lake, which equates to about three miles, in just 39 minutes.

His mum said the event had a “really good atmosphere and the juniors ran around that quickly that the adults barely saw them.”

Ben wanted to help other children that were struggling by raising money and has successfully raised more than £500 for his chosen charity.
