School showcase hits the right note

Date published: 21 November 2019

The annual High School Singing Showcase took place last week (Tuesday 12 November 2019) with a variety of choirs and soloists performing.

The event saw soloists, duos and choirs with outstanding singing and musical talent from, Kingsway, Siddal Moor, Cardinal Langley, Whitworth and Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar secondary schools as well as Rochdale Sixth Form College all taking part.

Performers dazzled the audience with 33 performances including hits from Coldplay, Lewis Capaldi, Michael Buble, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande as well as songs from Les Miserables and Beauty and the Beast.

Joanne Astley, organiser of the showcase from the council’s music service, was grateful to all schools that took part and said: “The showcase is a great chance for us to celebrate the musical talent of our young people in high schools and colleges. It provides valuable performance experience to students preparing to take their GCSE music exams or university applications.”

Rochdale Music Service, operated by Rochdale Borough Council, provides high-quality music tuition in schools across the borough and also from the Music Centre, based in Rochdale Town Hall.

Whatever your musical interests, your standard of playing or age, there is a session for you to join.
