Free eight-week construction course for unemployed residents of Greater Manchester

Groundwork Greater Manchester is recruiting people over the age of 19 from across Greater Manchester to take part in a free eight-week construction programme.
The programme, which begins on Monday 25 November, runs until Friday 31 January 2020, is a blend of practical hands-on experience and classroom-based tuition.
You must be 19 or over on the first day of the course, be in receipt of a state benefit (proof will need to be provided prior to day one of delivery) and live in Greater Manchester.
Skills and development areas include improving confidence, developing working relationships, core employability skills, goals and aspiration setting.
The course includes:
- a level one construction qualification, including painting and decorating, tiling, plastering and first and second fix joinery
- a level one award, ‘Health and Safety in a Construction Environment’
- a maths qualification with OCR
- structured training in work preparation skills
- a CSCS card (Construction Skills Certificate Scheme) for those who successfully complete the programme.
Attendance is required between 8.30am–4pm from Mondays to Thursdays and from 8.30am–12noon on Fridays.
Travels costs are paid, and benefits are not affected.
All Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied.
The construction training programme is delivered as part of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Adult Education Budget 2019/20, in partnership with The Growth Company.
Groundwork’s course takes place at Groundwork, Shaw Road, Higginshaw, Oldham, OL1 4AW.
