Heywood's Kate Cross helps raise over £50,000 with Three Peaks climb

Date published: 05 November 2019

Heywood cricketer Kate Cross has helped raise over £50,000 for charity as part of a group which completed the Three Peaks Challenge in mid-October.

The Lancashire Thunder captain was part of a 50-strong team which took on the tallest mountains in Great Britain – Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland – for the Professional Cricketers Trust and Tom Maynard Trust.

Kate, who won her first England cap in 2013, raised an impressive £1,580 towards the total, saying that the challenge was ‘worth being mentally and physically tough’.

Kate made her Lancashire debut at the age of just 13 and became the first girl to be accepted into the Lancashire Academy at 15.

She said: “As mentally and physically tough as it was, it has been worth it to know the money we are raising is going to be so well used.”

The climbers completed the physically demanding task over the course of Friday 11 - Sunday 13 October, totalling 26 miles walked and 3,407m climbed in three different countries.

The Professional Cricketers’ Trust is professional cricket’s leading charity, which helps current and former players and their immediate families, when they have fallen on hard times.

Whilst the Cricketers’ Trust supports players during and after their playing days, the Tom Maynard Trust aims to educate young people in the emerging stages of their sporting career.

The organisation aids the development of aspiring sportsmen and women by way of bursaries, provision of equipment and support for overseas placements, amongst other priorities, which include educating young sportspeople of the risks associated to top level sport.
