Rochdale In Bloom: Ashworth Valley retains top level of Outstanding

Date published: 30 October 2019

Ashworth Valley has retained the top level of 'Outstanding' at this year’s RHS North West in Bloom Awards in Southport on Wednesday (30 October).

The Royal Horticultural Society’s accolade is the second for the Friends of Ashworth Valley, after their first entry last year landed the maximum level five for the area, which has a rich industrial heritage across Rochdale’s ancient woodlands.

Accepting the recognition for the North West It's Your Neighbourhood category were Rochdale in Bloom vice-chairman Paul Ellison and Zoe Hotchkiss.

Zoe said: “What a wonderful result! To again achieve the top level five is incredible, and is all down to the great community spirit of our Friends group.”

The regional North West in Bloom competition consists of two judging days. The first is a guided tour taking in areas of interest around Rochdale; the second allows for visits to community-based projects that include local schools, allotments, health and well-being projects and conservation areas.

Each entry is marked on its individual merit and can gain a maximum level five award.

This year's Rochdale In Bloom entry was sponsored by the Co-op and H Bell and Sons.
