Heywood junior football team donate £300 to local charity

Date published: 29 October 2019

Roach Dynamos Junior Football Club has donated £300 to Heywood charity Little Monkeys, following the club's football prediction fundraiser, a 'last man standing' competition for parents, coaches and friends of the club.

The eventual winner of the competition was Simon Shard, who suggested Little Monkeys as a beneficiary after the club committee decided to donate a percentage of the money raised for the club to a local charity.

The winner of the competition could choose the charity – as long as it was based in Heywood.

Half of the money was awarded to the winner and the remainder went to the club.

Little Monkeys' mission is to help alleviate the effects of poverty on local children and their families through practical help. The charity provides a vital lifeline to many vulnerable families, providing practical help with items they need to lead a normal life.

Michael Taylor, chairman of Little Monkeys, said: “This touched us greatly to know we are recognised by children within the town.”

Andrew Barnes, chairman of Roach Dynamos JFC said: “As a junior football club in Heywood, we are delighted to donate to help local charities such as Little Monkeys, which in turn helps the children of our town – we share the same similar views on wanting to ensure the best for the young people of Heywood – they are the future of our town.

“We are happy to support the great work they do helping children and their families in Heywood and we are looking at ways we can work together in the future.”

Roach Dynamos is a football club based in Heywood and currently has 27 teams ranging from age seven to open age – including two girls' teams and an over 60's walking football team.
