Adult care staff raise £172 by wearing it pink for Breast Cancer Now

Date published: 30 October 2019

Staff from the adult care Rochdale Central Neighbourhood team supported national Wear it Pink Day on 18 October and helped to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Now.

The team baked cakes, buns and biscuits to sell, helping to raise £172 for Breast Cancer Now.

Around 55,000 women and 370 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK, with around 11,500 women dying from the disease.

The money raised from Wear it Pink Day will go towards important research projects to prevent breast cancer, stop deaths and improve the lives of those affected by breast cancer.

Councillor Iftikhar Ahmed, cabinet member for adult care, said: “I would like to congratulate adult care staff on this excellent initiative and fundraising efforts for this really important cause.

“The team can be proud of the money they raised, which will help support vital research and other key work. As cabinet member for adult care I am proud of our staff for all their work.

“Well done to everyone involved in this fundraising effort.”

Breast Cancer Now’s Wear it Pink Day is an annual awareness day which encourages people to support fundraising and awareness events. Thousands of people wear it pink in their communities, schools or workplaces for the UK's largest breast cancer charity.

One of the biggest fundraising events in the UK, the event has taken place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October since 2002.
