Rochdale’s Fabdance Centre danced their way to the top of the leaderboard at their first ever European Championships in Blackpool over the weekend of 25-27 October.

The Rooley Moor Road dance school competed against dance schools from across England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and even Norway, over the weekend in Blackpool dancing in the Winter Gardens.

The under 12 team ‘The Unknown’ walked away with a first place in the freestyle section and second place in the slow dance category.

Under-four dancer Frankie Davies, three, stole the show, winning trophies in all her sections achieving second place in Grand Prix, freestyle fast solo and slow dance.

Frankie and her partner, Poppy Shipley, also placed second in freestyle, third in rock ‘n’ roll, and fourth in slow dance.

Fiona Briddon, principal teacher and owner of Fabdance Centre, said: “I have always been proud of all our pupils from the dance school in competitions but never in a million years did we expect these results.

“Frankie has only just turned three; for her to even walk on the floor was a massive achievement.

“She performed beautifully.”

She added: “I would like to thank Colorplas in sponsoring our kids in paying for their tickets to be able to attend this prestigious dance competition, also to Morrison’s at Kingsway Rochdale for all our fundraising with bag packing to be able to attend, plus our sponsorship from the Oxford pub on Whitworth Road and Norwest Industrial Roofing for providing our comp squad uniforms.

“We really do appreciate the love and support from these companies. This was our first time competing at the European championship with it being their first competition for many of our students: we went with no expectations and every student came away with at least one or more trophy, sash, and t-shirt.”
