Circus classes available for children and over 65’s
Date published: 28 October 2019
Skylight Circus Arts Home Education Classes are running every Monday until Monday 9 December
Skylight Circus Arts are offering children who are educated at home and those aged over 65 the chance to learn new skills in a series of circus workshops.
Skylight’s next block of Home Education Circus Classes, for those aged 7 to 16, is running every Monday from 1pm – 2.30pm until Monday 9 December. The classes are on offer at a cost of £35 for the whole 7-week block.
Over the 7-week curriculum, youngsters will learn a range of circus skills such as juggling, tightwire, aerial trapeze, diablo and stilt walking at the facility at St Chads Fold, Rochdale.
All members will then be invited to take part in Skylight's Annual Christmas Show Back on Friday 13 December 2019; a casual showcase about 'showing back' the skills learnt, involving all of Skylights youth members, where children will have the chance to shine to family and friends.
Charma Force, a circus trainer at Skylight Circus Arts, said: “We welcome children from 7 years to 16 years who are not in mainstream education and may have additional needs.
“The group really enjoy getting to know other young people who are also home educated.
“We teach different skills each week and it’s great to see the group make friends and learn to work as a team.”
Due to high demand, there are limited places for this class. You can sign up by calling the Skylights Office on 01706 650676 or by emailing charma.f@skylightcircusarts.com

Skylight’s ‘Silver Circus’ for those aged 65 years and over is also underway, where the older generation can learn circus arts to improve their health.
Silver Circus has been funded by Our Rochdale's Connecting You since March 2019 and is a sociable and fun way to promote well-being, coordination, flexibility, balance and confidence. Depending on what participants want to do on the day, the sessions can involve juggling to help with hand-eye co-ordination or tight rope walking to help with balance.
Learning new skills can also help slow down the onset of dementia.
Silver Circus runs on Mondays from 11am – 12.30pm and is free of charge for those living in the Rochdale borough.
Skylight has been professionally delivering circus skills activities to people of all ages in Rochdale since 1988.
It is a registered charity based in Rochdale that provides circus themed workshops and classes for children and adults to help develop confidence, social skills and improve physicality through performance.
