Kirkholt Community Church undergoes renovations

Date published: 25 October 2019

Kirkholt Community Church is undergoing a makeover to bring it up-to-date.

Originally built during the 1950’s as a Methodist church, the church, which is used on a regular basis for community events, has recently benefitted from central heating and a rewiring.

More recently, supported by Township funding, the church had a toilet installed for those with disabilities so that it is accessible for all.

Community liaison officer Linda Mills said: “Our community, council and congregation have helped us raise money to continue with refurbishments to make the building more accessible to the community.

“Last year we had gas central heating and new wiring installed which we paid for from previous years' fundraising leaving us very little in the pot.

“We are also planning to decorate the main hall, and now need the existing facilities brought up to date and added to.”

The church was recently hit by graffiti crime, which will be removed by Rochdale Borough Council.

Linda added: “We thought we might have to use some of our funds to clean the graffiti, but, fortunately, the council said they would clean it as a one-off for us.”

To help raise funds towards the ongoing works, members of the church are holding an autumn fair on Saturday 26 October.
