A fundraiser benefit to raise money for a Littleborough woman’s physiotherapy will be taking place at Empire on Sunday 29 September.
Funds raised on the day will be used for Debbie Kirk Hughes’ physiotherapy, after she lost the use of the left-hand side of her body following a stroke in March.
Despite undergoing surgery for the bleed on her brain, Debbie, 51, has lost use of her motor skills, resulting in an inability to walk or use her left arm. She has also been experiencing nerve pain.
In a further blow, Debbie was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer just weeks later. She opted to undergo a mastectomy and is currently part way through a course of chemotherapy before undergoing a further three weeks of radiotherapy.
The day has been organised by Debbie’s work colleague, Avril Edmondson, who has worked alongside her in the NHS for 23 years, to raise funds towards private physiotherapy sessions.
There will be an auction, a raffle and tombola, plus entertainment from a DJ and performances hosted by the popular Packer Street venue. Mascots and Carty Party will also be present on the day, which will also see face-painting and a variety of refreshments.
Avril said: “When Debbie was in hospital, she was having physio every single day, which was really helping her. Now she’s home, she’s only having it twice a week, so we want to raise as much as we can for her to have more.
“Whilst Debbie can’t weight bear at the moment, there is a chance she will be able to walk again, which is why we are all so keen for her to have this extra physiotherapy. Her home has been adapted for her and her husband is now her main carer.
“We hope Debbie will be able to be there on Sunday too.”
The benefit will take place from 1pm on Sunday 29 September at Empire, Packer Street, Rochdale, OL16 1NJ.
