St Andrew’s Church raises over £500 towards macular degeneration research

Coffee morning at St Andrew's, Dearnley

Over £500 has been raised by members of St Andrew’s Church in Dearnley towards research into macular degeneration.

Jean Townsend, Shirley Harper, Maureen Sheridan and Anne Milligan, regular worshippers at St Andrew's, all suffer from the condition, the biggest cause of sight loss all over the world.

The combined figures of around £150 from an earlier initiative by Shirley, and more than £350 from a coffee morning at St Andrew's, Dearnley, organised by Jean, raised in excess of £500.

The coffee morning was held in the parish room at St Andrew's last Saturday morning (24 August).

Jean said: "The turn-out was amazing. It was a lovely morning, which helped, and so many people turned up that they couldn't all get into the parish room.

"Between us, we've raised more than £500 and that's fantastic. The four of us would like to thank all those who supported us."

There was a tombola, home-made cake and bric-a-brac stalls, all of which did brisk business.
