‘Health hazard’ rubbish piles on Freehold stairwells

Date published: 15 August 2019

Stairwells in buildings of the Freehold estate have been branded a “health hazard” by residents as piles of rubbish are building up over the weekends.

One complainant who contacted Rochdale Online said: “It’s like this every week. It gets reported to caretakers because every stair well on the estate is the same every weekend.

“It’s a health hazard.”

A spokesperson for RBH said: “The stairwells in the Freehold neighbourhood are checked and cleaned on a daily basis, Monday to Friday, by our Caretaking Team. After a weekend there can on occasions be rubbish left but this is always removed by the team on Monday morning.

“Any reports of rubbish left after the daily check are responded to on the same day. Rubbish left and not reported is picked up on the next daily visit.

“We have attended the site on Wednesday (14 August) to ensure that any rubbish left has been removed.

“RBH’s caretakers are a very visible presence in the neighbourhood; if any residents have concerns about stairwells, these can be flagged with the onsite team.”

Alternatively, residents can contact RBH directly on 0800 027 7769 and ask for the Neighbourhood Environment Team.
