Archmoor Care Home, Sandy Lane, Middleton
A positive Enter and View report of Archmoor Care Home, Middleton, has been published by Healthwatch Rochdale, following their visit on 21 June.
During the visit, staff members were seen chatting and laughing with residents and using resident’s names often in conversation. The home had dementia-friendly signage and was bright, airy and well decorated with the conservatory providing an area for smaller groups to sit together.
The residents all appeared happy and content in the home and were seen chatting to each other and staff members. The home had a well-maintained garden with a seating area and had some chicks as part of The Social Hens Project.
On the day of the visit there was an activity session taking place, but it was felt by Enter and View Representatives that activities could be developed and be more tailored to individual resident’s likes and dislikes.
Following the visit recommendations for improvement were made which included:
- Giving staff members the opportunity to train for their NVQ Level 2 in social care
- Having a dedicated member of staff in the role of activities co-ordinator to plan and implement activities
- Asking residents what activities they would like to do in the home and use their likes, dislikes, personality and life history to help tailor activities to the individual and develop an activities programme
- Having a ‘you said we did’ board for both residents and staff feedback to demonstrate how giving feedback can make a positive difference
Kate Jones, Chief Executive Officer, said: “The Enter and View team saw some very caring staff members at Archmoor Care Home and this standard of care was reflected in the contentment of residents and the homely atmosphere.
“The aim of our visits is to identify areas of improvement and the team felt that there was an opportunity for Archmoor to develop primarily in the areas of activities and staff training.”
Archmoor Care Home has been contacted for comment.
