The Foot Clinic National Three Peaks climb raises over £1,700 for Mikoroshoni Primary School

Stuart Healey, Adam Healey and Adele Murphy took on the tallest mountains in Great Britain – Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland

Staff from The Foot Clinic in Middleton have raised £1,725 for a Kenyan primary school after completing the National Three Peaks climb between Saturday 20 July and Sunday 21 July.

Stuart Healey, Adam Healey and Adele Murphy, of the Long Street podiatrists, took on the tallest mountains in Great Britain – Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland – in under 24 hours to raise funds for the Mikoroshoni Primary School in Shanzu village, Mombasa.

Mikoroshoni Primary School provides free local education for children from the very poorest of families, who might otherwise never attend school, through the Friends of Mikoroshoni Primary School charity.

The group, who were driven between the mountains by Jennifer Quinn, completed the challenge just 13 minutes before the 24-hour cut-off time.

They said: “It was very difficult, just under 23 miles of hiking, 10,066ft of ascent, and 462 miles in the car. Ben Nevis and Scafell were kind to us weather wise, but Snowdon decided to give us 50mph+ winds, making conditions very treacherous. We got up and down all three safely.

“We want to thank everyone who has helped and donated to a very worthy cause. We are proud to announce that before Gift Aid, the total going to Mikoroshoni Primary School stands at £1,725.”

The total walking distance of the National Three Peaks is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3,064 metres (10,052ft) – twice the ascent of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, over a similar total walking distance.

The Friends of Mikoroshoni Primary School was established in 1996 after John and Yvonne Brooker, ex-teachers from Middleton, travelled to Mombasa with friends, John and Pat Lloyd, for a holiday.

Former Mikoroshoni Primary School student Rehema Ngumbao graduated with a degree in law from the University of Nairobi in December, after studying a five-year law degree course funded by sponsors found through the charity.
