Police appeal for info after shots fired in Middleton

Police are appealing for information following a firearms discharge in Middleton.

Shortly after 9.50pm on Thursday 20 June 2019, officers were called to reports of shots heard on Ullswater Drive.

Officers attended and found evidence at the scene consistent with a firearms discharge.

Further investigation has established that a man was injured during the shooting, but left the scene shortly afterwards with a second man in a silver Volkswagen Passat.

The vehicle has now been recovered.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He remains in custody for questioning.

Superintendent Debbie Dooley of GMP’s Rochdale Division said: “I understand the concern that incidents like this cause in our communities.

“I want to reassure you that we believe this to be an isolated incident and have a team of detectives working to piece together the circumstances surrounding this shooting.

“We are appealing for the public’s help as part of enquiries.

“Were you in the area at the time? Do you have any information or dashcam footage that may assist our investigation? If so, please get in touch as soon as possible.

“We believe that a man has been injured in this shooting and may be in need of urgent medical attention. I would like to appeal to him directly to contact the emergency services as soon as possible.

“Residents in the vicinity of the incident will notice an increased police presence throughout the coming days. Please feel free to approach these officers, who will assist with any queries or concerns you may have.”
