Rochdale Online launches new Oldham Chronicle website

Date published: 12 August 2008

Rochdale Online has developed and launched a new website for the Oldham Evening Chronicle newspaper group.

The new site, which is based on the Rochdale Online model, offers all the services that Rochdale Online provides, including news, sport and pictures, as well as business and community opportunities.

Philip Hirst, managing director of Hirst, Kidd and Rennie Ltd, which owns the Oldham Evening Chronicle and the free Chronicle Weekend, said: "The Chronicle's new web site brings our internet presence right up to date. It will open many more doors for the company, and, perhaps more importantly, for our customers and readers.

"Our partnership with Rochdale Online increases coverage for advertisers, and it also means that the site won't stand still. We're looking forward to many more exciting developments over the next few months and years."

Mr Hirst is also a member of the board at Rochdale Online after the two companies joined forces in May this year to create a new force in online news and website development.

Rochdale Online has continued to go from strength to strength since it began life as a small community website 10 years ago. The launch of the Oldham Chronicle site is the culmination of months of hard work by the company's web design team, who, earlier this year, also completely relaunched the new-look Rochdale Online site.

Graphic designer Jon Pudny said: "The Oldham Chronicle website had started to look dated over time so our overall strategy was to create a redesign that had a fresher and friendlier image that was easier to use, more interesting to read, and appealing enough to attract people back again and again."
