The Friends of Castleton have been successful in their bid for a donation from Tesco to provide a History Board on Castleton Station.
The Tesco scheme, Tesco Bags of Help, gives local people a chance to support three community projects over two months by putting blue disks into a box in the stores locally, starting from 6 May to the end of June.
Rod Hughes secretary of the Friends said: “The Friends of Castleton Station are very grateful to Tesco for selecting our bid which will allow the history of Castleton Village to be displayed on a modern structure.”
“If any Castleton resident has an extensive knowledge of the Castleton area, not just the railway please contact us via our Rochdale Online web site.”
Castleton Station is situated in the centre of Castleton, Rochdale, adjacent to the Rochdale Canal and Castleton East Junction.
The Friends of Castleton Station are dedicated to the future development of the station and modern facilities, making it more passenger friendly and supporting the East Lancashire Railway, Bury, in its plans to run vintage train services into Castleton.
