Man dies in incident at Smithy Bridge railway station

A man in his 20s has died in an incident at Smithy Bridge railway station on Monday (1 April).

Paramedics attended, but sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Smithy Bridge Road was closed for several hours with train services suspended for several hours.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “At 6.45pm yesterday evening officers were called to Smithy Bridge station following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended however a man in his twenties was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed.

“This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
